233 - Rehabilitation and Functional outcomes of COVID-19 patients in Rehabilitation Hospital Doha Qatar

Objectives: To describe functional outcomes of patients with COVID-19 who have undergone inpatient rehabilitation

Design: Retrospective observational cohort study of all inpatients from a rehabilitation hospital between 01/01/21 till 30/10/2021

Results: A total of 243 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in the current study. Of these, 84.4% were male (n=205) with a mean age of 52.44± 12.987 years. Most common reported comorbidities were Type 2 Diabetes (62.1%), hypertension (49.8%), dyslipidemia (30.9%), stroke (16.0), and pulmonary embolism (16.0). Around 83.5% had critical illness neuromyopathy.

Data showed that the mean length of stay in ICU was 14.47± 14.164 days. A longer length of stay in acute care was reported with a mean of 54.19± 40.158 days. Furthermore, the average length of stay for patients in QRI was 33.92± 27.722 days.

Conclusions: Covid Rehabilitation significantly improve outcomes and improve Quality of Life(QOL), Covid Rehabilitation will continue in following years for post covid/long covid. Dedicated clinics for long covid and post covid patients in rehabilitation facilities to follow these patient population is recommended

Background:

Rehabilitation outcomes of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are unknown.

At the patient level, links to comorbidities observed in COVID-19 patients requiring intensive care include muscle weakness, nerve damage, delirium, and others, which have the potential to significantly impact their physical and cognitive function

The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics and post-acute rehabilitation outcomes of people with COVID-19 undergoing inpatient rehabilitation to inform post-acute rehabilitative care.

Main Outcome Measures: age, gender, body mass index (BMI), length of stay (LOS), discharge location, Functional Independence Measure including functional ability in selfcare and mobility (FA-SC, FA-Mob).



Results

Data showed that the mean length of stay in ICU was 14.47± 14.164 days. A longer length of stay in acute care was reported with a mean of 54.19± 40.158 days. Furthermore, the average length of stay for patients in QRI was 33.92± 27.722 days.

The results showed statistically significant improvement (p< 0.05) in all the scales. Additionally, the number of patients requiring modification to their diet or feeding via Nasogastric Tube (NGT) significantly decreased prior to discharge (p< 0.05).

Additionally, 89.7% of included patients required respiratory support at the start of the study. This significantly reduced to 2.1% by the end of the study period (p< 0.05). Similarly, a 21.8% reduction in the need for a tracheostomy tube amongst patients was noted following completion of IPR.
Conclusions.

Covid Rehabilitation significantly improve outcomes and improve QOL, Covid Rehabilitation will continue in following years for post covid/long covid. Dedicated clinics for long covid and post covid patients in rehabilitation facilities to follow these patient population is recommended
