Cancer rehabilitation and palliative medicine share a focus on optimizing quality of life for both patient and family, utilizing interprofessional approaches to address a range of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual symptoms. While cancer rehabilitation has historically focused on restoration of function across illness and survivorship and palliative medicine has focused on optimizing function in the setting of persistent serious illness, patients with cancer can often benefit from involvement of clinicians from both fields across the trajectory of their cancer experience. This session will use a hybrid didactic and case-based approach to advance participants’ understanding of when and how to engage cancer rehabilitation specialists, palliative clinicians, or both in the care of patients living with cancer.
