Dmitry Esterov, D.O., is an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic, with specialty interest in Neurological Rehabilitation including the rehabilitation of individuals with Traumatic and Acquired Brain Injury. Dr. Esterov is an integral participant in the PM&R Resident and Fellowship program. He is the associate fellowship director for the Brain Injury Rheabilitation Medicine Fellowship, and is part of the PM&R Residency Core Curriculum Committee. Along with his clinical practice and education responsibilities, he is the medical director of Mayo Clinic's Traumatic Brain Injury Model System, a longitudinal multicenter initiative examining patients' courses of recovery and outcomes after traumatic brain injury. Dr. Esterov's research interests include population-based epidemiology of brain injuries. This involves understanding long-term outcomes after traumatic brain injury, including the development of post-traumatic epilepsy, psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative disorders and stroke. He seeks to understand both the risk factors and protective factors that can influence cognitive and psychiatric recovery after brain injury.
