Justin Huber, MD MSc, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He has joint appointment in Department of Mechanical Engineering and adjunct appointment at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Department of Biomedical Engineering. He serves as an attending physician at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, and leads an outpatient clinic devoted primarily to rehabilitation needs of individuals after stroke.
Dr. Huber earned a master of science in mechanical engineering at University of Kentucky, and previously worked in industry for Panasonic and for various biomedical startups ranging from bedside diagnostic applications to rehabilitation robotics. He subsequently received his medical degree and residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Kentucky, where he became chief resident. During residency, he was accepted to the AAP Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training Program, and he now continues as a funded fellow of this program thanks to generous support of a KL2 Award by the University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translation Science.
As an early career physician-researcher, Dr. Huber’s research focuses on improving upper extremity outcomes and quality of life for individuals impacted by stroke through user-centered development of assessment, assistive, and rehabilitation technologies. He is passionate about collaborations that connect the clinical and engineering communities, and he currently serves as Co-Director overseeing an NIH-funded clinical immersion program for undergraduate engineering students at the University of Kentucky. He was recently awarded a Collaborative Mentorship Award through Center for Smart Use of Technologies to Assess Real World Outcomes.
