Dr. Amanda Harrington received an undergraduate degree in Biology from Elon University, Elon, North Carolina in 2000, then attended the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida, receiving a Doctorate in Medicine in 2004. Dr. Harrington completed a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency in 2008 at Carolinas Rehabilitation, Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, followed by a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Harrington is an Assistant Professor in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is the Program Director of the ACGME accredited Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship at UPMC and the Associate Program Director for the PM&R Residency Program. At UPMC, Dr. Harrington is the Medical Director of Spinal Cord Injury Services at the UPMC Rehabilitation. She additionally supports the Department of PM&R in an administrative role as the Director of Clinical Scheduling. At the national level, Dr. Harrington serves as the co-chair of the Program Directors Council for Spinal Cord Injury Fellowships, and volunteers in examination preparation with the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Harrington’s clinical interests include management of spinal cord injury, spasticity, neurotoxin injections, and management of baclofen pumps. A great deal of her time is spent educating medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Harrington supports the Ryan Shazier Fund for Spinal Rehabilitation as a member of the Medical Advisory Board.
