Ted Miclau is a 4th-year medical student at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine who is currently applying for PM&R residency training and will graduate in May 2024. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 2018, majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in psychology and neuroscience. He went on to pursue a master’s degree at the Stanford School of Medicine in Community Health & Prevention Research, graduating in 2019. In college, he competed as a member of Stanford’s Swimming & Diving Varsity team and spent a subsequent year diving internationally for the Puerto Rican national team before beginning his medical training at UCSF in 2020.
His research interests are broad and include investigating the interactions between the musculoskeletal and neurological systems, improving physician-patient interactions through effective healthcare communication practices, and increasing research capacity in under-resourced regions such as Latin America. In addition, he continues to study the cost-effectiveness of several interventions to increase access to care, including the use of telemedicine and subsidized transportation for patients.
