Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
A current medical student at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Tyler holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh. His research journey led him to delve into the realm of inflammatory markers within controlled cortical impact rat and murine models. Under the guidance of Dr. Amy Wagner, his focus aimed at enhancing rehabilitation and neuro-recovery at both acute and chronic stages following traumatic brain injuries.
At the '21 NNS conference, Tyler showcased his findings through a poster titled "Interleukin 7 Regulates Adaptive Immunity and Promotes Neurorecovery After Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury." Amongst a myriad of submissions, Tyler's abstract emerged as one of the top 20 finalists, ultimately receiving the prestigious David Hovda Award of Research Excellence—an accolade recognizing his exceptional contribution.
Currently in his third year of medical school, Tyler continues his academic pursuit under the mentorship of Dr. Justin Weppner. His passion lies in the field of brain injury medicine, aspiring to specialize in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).
