539 - Virtual rehabilitation for an adolescent patient with physical deconditioning due to very severe scoliosis using halo-gravity traction.

Case Diagnosis: A 13-year-old adolescent diagnosed with very severe scoliosis, with a Cobb angle of 110°, currently wearing a Halo-gravity traction for gradual curve reduction prior to surgery. She received a tailored virtual rehabilitation program.

Case Description: The patient exhibited functional dependency and limitations in performing daily activities, with an Independence Functional Measure (FIM) score of 89 points, as well as dyspnea during physical exertion (Modified Borg Scale or mBORG of 3), muscular weakness in hip flexors (manual testing of 4/5), and balance deficits (Berg Balance Scale or BBS of 52). A tailored virtual Rehabilitation program with physical exercises was prescribed, using the software Rehametrics, with the aim of optimizing her physical condition. Upon completing the 15 sessions of the rehabilitation program, significant improvements were observed in dyspnea during physical exertion (mBORG of 5), hip flexor muscle strength (5/5), and balance (BBS of 56), as well as increased autonomy in functionality and daily activities (FIM of 94).

Discussions: Due to the software's use of physical exercises through interactive virtual games, the patient quickly accepted and adhered excellently to the treatment. No publications were found regarding rehabilitation in patients with very severe scoliosis and Halo-gravity traction

Conclusions: This case report highlights the efficacy of tailored virtual rehabilitation for adolescents with very severe scoliosis using Halo-gravity traction. Notable enhancements in dyspnea during physical exertion, muscle strength, balance, and overall functionality underscore the promise of virtual rehabilitation in managing intricate orthopedic conditions, particularly in the absence of existing literature in this specific area.
