582 - Short- and medium-term efficacy of shock waves in the treatment of piriformis syndrome

Objectives: Our aim was to analyze the efficacy of OCEF in the treatment of MPS

Design: We conducted a prospective bi-centric descriptive study in physical medicine departments in Tunisia over a 6-month period. A data collection sheet was developed based on a literature review. Patients received weekly OCEF sessions for four consecutive weeks. Intermediate evaluation, one month and 3 months after the last session, focused on pain (VAS).

Results: The study included 12 patients, 80% of whom were women. The average age was 42 years, 66% were office workers in prolonged sitting positions, with right-sided pain predominating in 66% of cases. Patients underwent 4 sessions of OCEF, with an improvement in pain VAS from an average of 7/10 to 1/10 after the last session. We noted an improvement as early as the 2nd OCEF session in 50% of patients. The efficacy of OCEF at 1 month was 92% and at 3 months 83%.

Conclusions: Shockwave therapy appears to be of interest in SMP in the short and medium term, and can be proposed as a complement to conventional medical treatment and rehabilitation. It would be useful to complement this study with a long-term evaluation of the efficacy of OCEF.
