This course is designed to teach essential medical education knowledge and skills that will allow physiatrists to become strong teachers, mentors and medical educators. This course is intended for trainees, junior faculty, and for faculty development. This will be an interactive, hands-on course with small group activities, discussions, and experiences to demonstrate the importance of active learning techniques to promote audience engagement. Topics will include adult learning theory to frame the different educational approaches as well as teaching skills in different settings, teaching in a virtual setting, how to give a lecture, feedback, and mentorship. Participants will have the chance to examine their own teaching styles and experiences and apply the information from the course to develop new methods of teaching in different settings.
