Prof. Mario Giraldo, MD obtained his PM&R specialist degree at the University of Antioquia in 2003; he works as an Assistant professor since 2016 and completed a Master in Science of Clinical Epidemiology in 2021 at the same University.
He completed a Fellowship of Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation in 2014 and a Fellowship of Rehabilitation in 2015, at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Giraldo is a member of the Health Rehabilitation Research Group (HRRG) from the University of Antioquia, Colombia.
Since the residency, he has published several papers on national and international journals and books about several topics of interest for the specialty: carpal tunnel syndrome, immune response after exercise, specific language impairment and learning disabilities, academic and social integration of children with deafness, rehabilitation for children after traumatic brain injuries, multiple intelligences, rehabilitation after severe burns, systematic review of massage for low back pain, systematic review of rehabilitation service models, rehabilitation in health systems, primary care and long term rehabilitation and chronic pain among others, responsibility of medical journals and industry, gaps of international guidelines of spinal stenosis, and reach, scope and limitations of evidence-based medicine in rehabilitation.
At the ISPRM congresses he has presented several topics on research methodology, such as sample size calculation, effective planning of variables of interes, bayesian probabilities for diagnoses, and metanalysis.
Currently, he is a PhD student for the program of Clinical Medicine, with emphasis in clinical epidemiology.
At the ISPRM, he has participated in several ISPRM committees and collaborates with the Spanish Translations of the Cochrane Rehabilitation Blogshots. Dr. Giraldo was the chair of the Scientific Committee for the 2023 ISPRM, Cartagena, Colombia.
For the period of 2024-26, he was appointed as International Board Member at Large of the AAP Board of Trustees to support the collaboration between the AAP and the ISPRM.
