Happier Physiatrists and Happier Patients: How to Have a Voice in the Design of the Electronic Health Record & Artificial Intelligence Tools for Clinicians - Clinical Informatics 101 for Physiatrists

This introductory session to clinical informatics will empower physiatrists with basic tools needed in order to have a voice in the design and optimization of the electronic health record. This course will review the basics of clinical informatics for physiatrists, including new Artificial Intelligence tools, and discuss strategies for physiatrists to collaborate with the clinical informatics team. Knowledge of clinical informatics helps organizations: become highly reliable; optimize care delivery models, throughput and value; provide consumer- and citizen-centric care; and reduce burnout. The application of clinical informatics makes for happier, better-informed patients, and happier doctors - who spend less time in front of a computer.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to discuss the importance of the field of clinical informatics and of clinical informatics trained physicians in the success of hospitals and health systems. Participants will be able to discuss how clinical informatics enhances patient care, patient experience and population health.
  • Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to apply informatics decision support and other tools to physiatric workflow needs.
  • Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to influence/propose and enable changes in the electronic medical record.
